HIV POSITIVE ASYLUM SEEKERS AT RISK FROM DISPERSAL SCHEME

The National Aids Trust is raising the profile of their concerns that HIV positive asylum seekers are being put at
potential risk by being dispersed despite government measures designed to tackle the issue. The National AIDS
Trust has drawn up guidance for health workers on the Home Office policy together with the British HIV Association.
The guidance sets out how transfers should “normally” only take place if the asylum seeker is medically stable, if
adequate notice has been given and there are satisfactory arrangements are in place for the safe transfer of care

CAPITAL FUNDING FOR SEXUAL HEALTH CLINICS 2006/7
There is £25million capital funding available for sexual health in the next financial year announced as part of the allocations from the Choosing Health White paper. It has been agreed centrally in DH that all capital funding for 2006/7 including the sexual health money, will be allocated to SHAs on a weighted capitation basis.
Sexual health and access to Genito-Urinary Medicine (GUM) clinics has been identified as one of six key priorities for action for the NHS in 2006/7. In particular, delivering the LDP trajectories so that by 2008 everyone referred to a GUM clinic should be able to have an appointment in 48 hours.
